BUB Enterprises started in 1978 with Denis Manning and a desire to build exhaust pipes. He starting with Triumph parts because he knew about the system and at the time no one else was making them. The products expanded to Harley- Davidson and then incorporated the European machines. Before too long he started making exhaust for the Japanese bikes too.
After a number of years, the motorcycle industry in the US was in a decline and while sales of BUB products were stable, a choice was made to move up to Northern California. Operating from Denis's own home, at the time sales increased which enabled him to move production into a 3000 sq ft building perched atop a hill overlooking the valley on his ranch, the building is still used for his racing shop today.
A 15,000 sq ft building in Grass Valley, designed by Denis, is currently occupied by the company and is still continuing to develop better exhaust pipes for a wide range of different motorcycles, and an additional expansion into a second premises has occurred to assist the growth of the company and development into additional motorcycle, and now ATV products. In April of 2005 BUB once again expanded by opening another manufacturing facility in Janesville, Wisconsin
In the immediate future, further expansions are planned, to assist the increase in production and development of new products. BUB currently offers exhaust products for a wide range of Harley Davidsons, heavyweight Japanese Cruisers and Sportbikes, European motorcycles and Sport and Utility ATV’s.
From the production of Triumphs, which are still made today, to the latest motorcycle lines, BUB Enterprises maintains its reputation as one of the top exhaust pipe makers for motorcycles. With the addition of ATV exhausts to the BUB Enterprises range, BUB is constantly improving on products and continuing to build it’s great reputation for quality performance pipes.

Denis Manning is a world renowned land speed racer. He’s designed and built some of the world’s fastest motorcycles. Amongst all of this Denis has continued to expand his own company, BUB Enterprises, to become a manufacturer of high quality performance exhaust pipes for motorcycles, and ATV’s.
Denis has worked in the motorcycle industry for over 40 years. In his early years he worked in a motorcycle shop, employed by racer Dutch Mueller, who was also known as ‘The Flying Dutchman’. Denis was soon nicknamed BUB (‘Big Ugly Bastard’) and thus became the name behind the legend.
Early in his career, Denis was offered a spot on the USA Drag racing team in England. After England his racing career took a turn. Taking inspiration from his childhood idol, Mickey Thompson, Denis headed off to the salt flats of Bonneville, Utah.
In 1968 he built his first streamliner. In 1970, at the tender age of 24, Denis built the world record breaking Harley-Davidson streamliner that was ridden by the late Cal Rayborn at 265MPH.
His racing career expanded from there, to building streamliners for Harley, Triumph, and Norton to name a few. In his career so far, Denis has designed and owned 5 of the 10 fastest motorcycles in history. His designs have included streamliners, conventional motorcycles, and on some occasions, LSR cars.
For over 35 years Denis has been creating motorcycles to capture the ultimate title of “worlds fastest motorcycle”. He has dreamed of producing and promoting the sport of land speed racing. In 2004, along with his daughter-in-law Delvene, he began the International Motorcycle Speed Trials by BUB. Through this annual event he is able to provide the needs that are specific to motorcycle racing.
For the first time in history the International Motorcycle Speed Trials offered the opportunity for multiple riders to make official world record attempts. National Land speed records under the AMA have not been attempted since 1978 and in the lapse motorcycles have needed to compete at other events along side cars.
In addition to competing at these events with his latest streamliner, Denis, with the support of the industry, is advancing the sport of motorcycle land speed racing. Denis plans to continue to develop this annual event and with the sanction of the FIM and AMA present the opportunity for motorcyclists to place their names in the official record books.
Denis, with his wealth of experience in both motorcycle racing, and as a manufacture of high quality exhaust systems continues to innovate, and support the motorcycling industry by being a leader in his field.
